Tea Lovers
With everything in life, there is always a downside with modern food technologies that are causing new health concerns.
You know the tea bags that come in this pretty pyramid shape that helps the herbs to show through the nylon. Plastics have been under scrutiny for years now with BPA scandals, it is no different for the plastic used in these new tea bags. Unfortunately, according to an article in The Atlantic, there is further no information on the level of plastic toxicity one endures from steeping these plastics in hot water or how they may affect our health in the long run.
In a Mercola article, "Plastic and Cancerous Compounds in Tea Bags—A Surprising Source of Potential Toxins" Dr. Mercola writes, "...newer tea bags are made with a variety of plastics; some are nylon, some are made of viscose rayon, and others are made of thermoplastic, PVC or polypropylene."
He continues the article stating, "...paper tea bags may be just as bad, or worse, than the plastic ones because many of them are treated with epichlorohydrin, a compound mainly used in the production of epoxy resins." This is considered a potential carcinogen by the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health and it's actually considered a pesticide. Hooray.
