Sources of Iron (Blood Tonics)

Updated: Sep 19, 2020

Spinach is known to provide iron, which is great. But Kale is a much better blood tonic. Purple kale is best as it acts on blood, but the green one is great too as it acts on the Liver. Both purple and green are also great sources of calcium, and eat the stems too. However, people complain that it is too hard and chewy. In which case, add some salt, pepper and olive oil and bake it in the oven making into kale crisps.

But I have found the best source of iron, calcium and Blood and energy tonic is found in beetroot leaves and stems. So next time you buy, beet roots, buy the ones with the leaves, chop up the leaves and dry them with onions, ginger, garlic, salt and pepper and enjoy. Alternatively, add them into soups, curries, pies or however you like to cook them.

Swiss chard are also amazing source of iron and come in a variety of colours with each colour working on a different body organ.

Purple cabbage is an amazing blood tonic which will reach the Kidneys too.

Radish and carrot leaves are also great in broths, soups, curries or simple stir fry
