Lung herbs

The Lung is highlighted in the autumn season. Whilst it is autumn in the Southern hemisphere, it is spring back home and in the Northern hemisphere. However, due to this chaotic time the world is going through involving the respiratory system and Lung systems, this post is relevant to everyone.

The Lung system belongs to the autumn season when nature begins withdrawing into itself. If you have found yourself having cold or allergy symptoms as the weather shifts, it's important to take a look at your Lung health and give it a bit of extra attention.

The Lung is miraculous as it protects us against external pathogens and circulates fluids throughout the body. It is also the organ that helps us to let go of what we don't need both physically and emotionally. Each organ has a related tissue associated with it according to TICM. The skin is the tissue associated with the Lung, if you want to have clear, vibrant, healthy and wrinkle free skin, it's imperative to pay attention to your Lung health and function.

Thankfully nature provides us with natural herbs to strengthen the Lungs and avoid respiratory illnesses and below are some favourites.

Eucalyptus opens us up the nasal passages for better breathing, it clears mucus and relieves inflammation. You can even hang eucalyptus in your shower and allow the steam to activate the the glorious aroma.

Thyme helps keep respiratory infections at bay and serves as an antiseptic. It also helps to dissolve mucus, soothe coughs and fights nasal congestion. You can gargle with a thyme tea to soothe sore throats and tonsillitis. To prepare it as a tea, place a teaspoon of thyme in boiling water, let it stand for 10 minutes and then strain. Add a drop of lemon juice to enhance its disinfectant qualities.

Licorice (Gan Cao) is a natural antibiotic that helps reduce coughs and nasal discharge with its natural moisture. It also helps the Lung's partner, the Large Intestine by nourishing the Stomach energy (Qi). Remember the Stomach is the mother of Lungs so we must keep Stomach healthy and happily with its energy smooth flowing downwards. If Stomach energy goes upwards, we start having problems like acid reflux and burping.

Vitality herbal formula is an ancient formula that uses a combination of wild crafted herbs like Ren Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Ban Xia, and Chen Pi to remove stagnant fluids, relieve chronic asthma and excess phlegm that's difficult to cough out. It also harmonises Stomach function and helps bloating, indigestion, gas and acid reflux to name a few.
