Earth day?

I am truly behind on modern day innovations as a traditionalist. But, tradition never fails. So I learnt 22 April is Earth day. What it is I have not even looked into as I do not have the time to spend on meaningless things although it may mean a lot to others just like every other innovation like Valentine’s day, mothers day, fathers day and so on. So I am jumping to the assumption Earth day is to do with protecting Earth? My issue with these things is that why would you celebrate these things just one day a year? Why not every day? Who was responsible for making up these innovations that everyone has jumped on the band wagon. My problem is I find it difficult to follow with which I will admit myself I have always had issues with following the masses. We can see exactly where following has got us with BS19.

In TICM, it is the way to live in harmony with the Earth every day. We look at nature as our greatest teacher: how we should act, eat, think, breathe and live. Each element of nature correlates to specific organs which shows us how to treat them for optimal health.

Wood is associated with the Liver and Gallbladder for Spring.

Fire is associated with the Heart and Small Intestine during Summer.

Earth is associated with the Spleen and Stomach during Late Summer.

Metal is associated with the Lungs and Large Intestine, during Autumn.

Water is associated with the Kidneys and Bladder in the Winter.

Just like Earth is the home we inhabit, our Spleen and Stomach is the centre, the home of our body. When our home is sick, we experience all types of disease and discomforts, both mentally and physically. The famous ancient TICM saying goes "all disease starts in the Stomach and Spleen"

If we take care of our micro sized Earth, our Spleen and Stomach, we are also taking care of the greater Earth. Eating seasonally, avoiding packaged and processed foods, shopping at local markets, supporting real agriculture and farming are not only how to be healthy, but how to keep the Earth healthy too.

When we escape from nature, we hurt ourselves. Nature will always prevail, therefore we should be protecting our environment every day. I hope we can live to understand this power.
