Purple cabbage health benefits:

Purple cabbage and all types of cabbage have cancer preventative benefits as they contain a compound called sinigrin which is a cabbage glucosinolate. It converts into isothiocyanate or AITC which has shown to have unique cancer preventative properties especially in regards to bladder, colon, prostate and breast cancers.


To reap the benefits of cabbage it is best eaten raw, slightly steamed or lightly sauteed. When cabbage is raw it assists the 2 phase liver detoxification process by helping the liver break up toxic chemicals absorbed from our everyday environment. Purple is especially nutritious and is high in antioxidant protection. It's deep purple color provides anthocyanin polyphenols, an antioxidant which is anti-inflammatory, cell protective and disease preventative. It helps the cardiovascular system, digestive tract, joints arthritis, and protects against cancers.


The vitamin C equivalent, a measure of antioxidant capacity, of red cabbage is six to eight times higher than that of green cabbage. Red cabbage is also high in Vit K, B6 and has a good amount of choline, manganese, potassium fibre, copper, folate, B1, magnesium, iron, selenium, B2, B5 calcium, phosphorus, B3 and some protein. It is a superfood.
