Dandruff

Dandruff is a skin condition that mainly affects the scalp. Symptoms include flaking and sometimes mild itchiness. It can result in social or self-esteem problems. A more severe form of the condition, which includes inflammation of the skin, is known as seborrhoeic dermatitis. It is common that dandruff is due to a yeastlike fungus called Malassezia, this fungus feeds on oils on the scalp. It would be safe to assume that there is yeast overgrowth happening in other parts of the body as well, mainly the gastrointestinal tract.

According to TICM, our Blood is the substance that moistens the body. When it fails to do so, dandruff can manifest on the scalp and is categorised as Liver Blood deficiency. This is the same deficiency that is a main cause of psoriasis, both dandruff and psoriasis go hand in hand.

It is typically revealed that the dandruff sufferer has consumed too much alcohol, coffee, and spicy, deep-fried, and greasy foods, which directly impact the Liver. The diet that nourishes the Blood consists of fresh green leafy vegetables, bone broth, seaweeds, protein, fresh fruits, whole grains, and nuts and seeds.

Liver formula’s helps to smooth the flow of emotions, Blood and Qi (energy) through the Liver to reach the entire body. If you suffer from stress, Stomach imbalances, emotional disturbances and for women a painful period, Liver formula’s can help balance those as well as nourish the Blood.

Blood Builder nourishes Heart and Liver Blood, nourishes the body, moistens the body tissues and supports the Shen/Ruh (spirit and mind).

The yeast overgrowth is viewed as damp-heat in TICM. Heat is an accumulation of toxins that get trapped in dampness which is a phlegm like consistency of heaviness in the body. Candida formula is a great forumla that drains heat, toxins and candida from the Liver and gut naturally while strengthening the body to inhibit overgrowth from happening again.

Acupuncture helps to nourish the Blood. A group of six points on the back, known as the Magnificent Six, and the Sea of Blood point, close to the knee, works very well to do so.

Head massages with aloe provide topical relief along with green tea soaks, apple cider vinegar and coconut oil.
