Damp


Damp can lead to many sicknesses and usually occurs when your Spleen is not functioning at its optimum levels. We all have some form of Spleen Qi deficiency regardless of age, but damp is on the increase and I am noting this in everyone in clinic. Interesting times ahead!


Are you experiencing problems related to dampness? This is the pathogen that results in weight gain, heaviness, inflammation, lethargy, congestion and weak digestion. Late Summer which relates to Spleen and Stomach function. Dampness is the environmental factor and pathogen that they are most susceptible to.


Dampness is prevlevent in hot, wet and humid environments as well as created through diets heavy in dairy, refined sugars, fatty and greasy foods. When the Spleen and the Stomach channels are properly fueled, they work harmoniously to create usable energy for the entire body, mind and spirit. When their functioning is hindered, you may experience a combination of the symptoms listed below.


Acupuncture point SP9 is located on the inside part of the lower leg where the depression of the of the lower border of the medial condyle of the tibia. Through pressing on this point, you can help open the channel to invigorate proper Blood and Qi flow, helping to relieve dampness and its related symptoms.


Do you suffer from dampness?

Physical symptoms: excess weight, heaviness, inflammation, lethargy, congestion, poor digestion, oedema, swelling, thirst and urinary difficulty. Abdominal discomfort, bloating, gas pains, and lethargy after eating.


Mental symptoms: anxiety, overthinking, worrisome thoughts.


Help yourself by gently press on SP9 for 20-30 seconds, this is performing acupressure. For those of you who come to see me in clinic I shall needle and perform moxibustion to shift things.
